For many years, the United Way of Beaufort County has provided a helping hand to agencies, organizations and other groups that work to improve the quality of life for Beaufort County folks.
With a new fundraising campaign under way, it’s time for Beaufort County folks to provide helping hands to United Way of Beaufort County. Those helping hands should be taking money from wallets or writing checks, with the money and checks going to United Way of Beaufort County.
The new campaign’s objective is to raise at least $375,000. Carol Atwater, United Way of Beaufort County’s executive director, is leading that campaign.
Last year’s fundraising campaign brought in $341,000 in pledges, surpassing its $300,000 goal. The current fundraising campaign needs to surpass its goal, too.
The United Way of Beaufort County was founded in 1962 to provide community-wide leadership to develop resources and assure their effective use for the delivery of health and human services in Beaufort County. United Way of Beaufort County provides funding to 19 health and human-service agencies throughout the county. They provide services such as youth programs, affordable housing, food banks, soup kitchens and senior services.
The money raised by United Way of Beaufort County campaigns does make a difference in people’s lives.
Knowing the generosity of Beaufort County residents, businesses and industries, it’s a safe bet the United Way of Beaufort County will meet its $375,000 goal for this fundraising campaign, which kicked off Sept. 18.
The United Way of Beaufort County does more than just raise money to help the organizations it funds. It must account for the money it raises. The United Way of America keeps a close watch on the United Way agencies under its umbrella. The United Way of Beaufort County has met the national agency’s certification standards.
The certification process mandates completion of 13 requirements for United Way of America membership, along with verification of the status of 44 indicators that demonstrate how United Way embodies the intent of the membership requirements. The certification process helps ensure that the United Way of Beaufort County is properly raising and distributing the money it brings in to help the community it serves.
Recognizing the importance of United Way of Beaufort County, mayors of the county’s municipalities signed documents proclaiming September as United Way Month. An even better way to recognize and honor the organization’s importance to the county would be contributing to United Way of Beaufort County’s fundraising campaign.
This year, the fundraising campaign has this theme: “Together, We Do What Matters.”
The United Way of Beaufort County does matter — to many organizations and people.
It’s time to provide a helping hand to an agency that’s been a helping hand in so many lives.
