Mrs. Stella Marie Spruill-Tate, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 at Plumblee Nursing Center in Plymouth.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at noon at Saint Joan of Arc, 506 Main Street, Plymouth, with Michael Langell and Kieran Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Cross Road, Roper.
Mrs. Spruill-Tate was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Washington County, the daughter of the late Henry Spruill and the late Matilda McCleese-Spruill. In 1952 she married Melvin Tate. She was a handbag designer. She attended J.J. Clemons High School in Roper. She was a member of Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Plymouth.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Ianthar Woodward of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Luvera Anthony of Virginia Beach, Va. and Surethia Bellamy of Roper and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Maynard Spruill, Earl Spruill, Cecil Spruill, Joel Spruill and Stelburn Spruill.
A viewing will be held Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Puckett-Purkett Memorial Chapel, 300 West Buncombe Street, Roper, NC 27970.
