Mr. Ira “Odell” Cox of 805 Simmons St., Washington, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Theron Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Cox was born Jan. 16, 1921, the son of the late Fred and Connie Chapman Cox. He was married to Christine Gay Cox, who preceded him in death. He retired as a truck driver from Moss Planing Mill of Washington. He was a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir and trustee board.
Survivors include six daughters, Marie Cox of Roanoke Rapids, Annette Grant of Long Island, N.Y., Mary Glaspie, Verna Smith and Debra Ann Cox, all of Washington, and Barbara Thompson of Greenville; six sons, Willie and James Cox, both of Washington, Ronnie Boyd of Washington, Barney Cox of Plymouth, Jimmy Cox of Red Springs and John Hines of Greenville; one sister, Helen Pugh of Ayden; 26 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Johnny Ray, Hubert, Heber, Lee, Fred and Sam Cox and one sister, Sarah J. Cox.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington, and other times at the home of his daughter, Mary Glaspie, 411 E. Fifth St., Washington.
