M. “Elizabeth” Ball

Mrs. Marjorie Elizabeth Wilkerson Ball, age 78, a former resident of 228 East 2nd Street, Washington, NC died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday October 5, 2007 at the First Church of Christ in Washington officiated by Ray West and Arthur “Bud” Ball, Jr. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Max Wilkerson, Jr., Aaron Mobley, Adam Waters, Hal Younce, Arthur Ball, Jr., Earl Tyson and Philip Mobley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Clayton and Carl Smith, Sr.
Mrs. Elizabeth was born in Pamlico County on November 1, 1928 daughter of the late William Clinton Wilkerson and the late Annie McCotter Wilkerson. The family moved to Washington where she graduated from high school and enrolled in nursing school at Tayloe Hospital in 1941. She held several nursing positions at Beaufort County Hospital including the labor and delivery, operating room and the emergency department. Mrs. Elizabeth also worked as Dr. Williams’ nurse in his family medical practice. She wanted to be a nurse from childhood and had a passion for the medical career. Mrs. Elizabeth married James Franklin Ball, Jr. on January 4, 1958 who preceded her in death on January 9, 1992. She retired from nursing to become a housewife and care for her family as a loving mother, wife and friend to all. Mrs. Elizabeth was a member of First Church of Christ and attended until her health began to fail.
Mrs. Elizabeth is survived by her brother: Max Wesley Wilkerson of Washington; her three children: Karen Kay Ball, Gregory Eugene Ball and Susan B. Tyson and her husband Randy all of Washington; three grandchildren: Aaron Michael Mobley, Samantha Ann Mobley and Alexander Ian Tyson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a stepfather: Eugene Piver.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday October 4, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth’s daughter: Karen Ball located at 50 Cherry Hill Road, Washington.
