Mr. Rodney Kenneth Deshields, 84, of Chesapeake, Va., and formerly of Beaufort County, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Riverside Convalescent Center, Smithfield, Va.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted today at 1 p.m. in Albert G. Horton Memorial Veteran Cemetery, Suffolk, Va.
Mr. Deshields was born in Morristown, Ohio. He had been a resident of Chesapeake, Va., for 58 years. He was a Marine veteran of World War II, seeing action on Iwo Jima and receiving the Purple Heart. He was married to Maude Harris Deshields, who survives. He owned and operated Tidewater Insurers for 35 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Yolanda Williamson of Suffolk, Va.; and two brothers, Leon Deshields of Franklin, Va., and Forrest Deshields of Fayetteville.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Isle of Wight Humane Society SPCA, P.O. Box 273, Smithfield, VA 23430.
