According to a policy established in 2001, The Washington Daily News accepts full-length obituaries until 5 p.m. daily. Death notices may be submitted until 8 p.m.
Death notices may contain only the name, age and address of the deceased; the date of death; visitation information; and the name of the funeral home handling the arrangements.
All obituaries must come through a funeral home, to protect both families and the newspaper from the possibility that erroneous reports might be published.
Photos of the deceased also are accepted, although the quality of the reproduction value in the newspaper will be determined by quality of the original copy.
