There’s plenty on the line tonight during Week 11 of the high school football season.
Both the Plymouth Vikings and Jamesville Bullets can clinch undisputed conference championships with victories tonight. Plymouth can win the Albemarle Conference title with a win at Manteo while Jamesville will lock up the Tideland Conference championship with a victory at Creswell.
The Washington Pam Pack (6-3, 3-2) will move a step closer to winning the 3-A portion of the split 4A/3A Coastal Conference with a victory at Havelock. The Pack will also look to snap a two-game slide (see related story).
Roanoke and Southside will be playing their second games of the week after having played on Monday. The Redskins travel to Northside and the Seahawks visit Williamston.
The Tigers will look to keep pace with the Redskins, which would make next week’s game at Roanoke an Atlantic Conference championship game.
Mattamuskeet will look to keep Columbia winless in a Tideland Conference battle.
PLYMOUTH AT MANTEO
Coach Robert Cody’s Plymouth Vikings, ranked fourth in the latest 1A state poll, will lock up the Albemarle Conference title with a win against the Redskins.
Plymouth (9-0, 5-0), coming off a 44-7 drubbing of Camden, has outscored its opposition 372-40 this season. A win by the Vikings would give them their second straight 10-win season.
Plymouth fell 24-22 to Manteo (5-4,4-1), which is coming off a 20-6 win over Perquimans, last year.
The Vikings wrap up the regular season Nov. 2 at home against Perquimans.
JAMESVILLE AT CRESWELL
Coach Richie Ange’s Jamesville Bullets are on the verge of winning their fourth straight conference championship.
The Bullets (6-2, 6-0) have won 21 consecutive conference games. The last time Jamesville dropped a conference game was 42-8 to Camden County when both teams were in the Atlantic Conference.
A win tonight for Jamesville, coming off a 31-0 shellacking of Mattamuskeet, would give the Bullets the undisputed Tideland Conference championship.
Coach Wayne Rodgers and his Creswell Tigers (6-1, 5-1), who have won four straight, including last week’s 28-0 win over Cape Hatteras, stand in the way. The Tigers, who have second place in the conference wrapped up, lost 30-12 to Jamesville on Sept. 21. Creswell has outscored its opponents 244-55 this year.
Jamesville closes regular-season play Nov. 2 at home against Cape Hatteras.
Creswell will end the regular season at Columbia.
OANOKE AT NORTHSIDE
Coach Brian Paschal’s team is still in the hunt for the Atlantic Conference championship.
Roanoke (6-3, 3-2), fresh off a 42-0 win over Southside, hits the road to face the Northside Panthers.
Northside (2-7, 1-4) will look to upset the Redskins on Senior Night. The Panthers are coming off a 33-14 loss to Williamston.
The Redskins posted a 44-0 victory last year.
Both teams play big rivalry games on Nov. 2. The Redskins play host to Williamston in a Martin County bash that could be for the conference title.
Northside travels to Southside for the annual Anchor Bowl.
SOUTHSIDE AT WILLIAMSTON
Coach Asim McGill’s Williamston Tigers are hoping to play Roanoke for the Atlantic Conference championship next week.
First thing’s first and that’s taking care of the Southside Seahawks (0-8, 0-5), who would love to upset the Tigers (6-3, 3-2). A win by Southside would be its first of the season, and the first for rookie coach David Hines. The Seahawks, coming off a 42-0 loss to Roanoke, have been outscored 301-18 this year.
Southside beat Williamston 18-3 last year.
Williamston plays at Roanoke in the final week of the regular season.
Southside will welcome rival Northside to town for the annual Anchor Bowl.
COLUMBIA AT MATTAMUSKEET
The Mattamuskeet Lakers will play for the 11th consecutive week. They finally get a bye next week in the final week of the regular season.
Mattamuskeet (3-7, 3-4) plays host to the winless Columbia Wildcats (0-8, 0-6) on Senior Night for the Lakers. The Wildcats have been outscored 204-18 in competed games while having to forfeit two others.
Mattamuskeet picked up a 23-6 win over Columbia on Sept. 21.
Columbia hosts its own Senior Night next week when the Wildcats end the regular season against Cape Hatteras.
