Senior running back Jamont Jones may have expressed it best following last week’s disappointing 14-13 loss to New Bern.
The Pam Pack lost to J.H. Rose the previous week. The consecutive losses knocked the Pack into a tie for third place overall in the Coastal Conference standings.
However, coach Sport Sawyer’s team is tied for first with West Craven among the Class 3-A teams. The fourth-year coach said it’s important the Pack (6-3, 3-2) beats Havelock (3-6, 2-3) on the road tonight to stay out in front.
The Pack, who holds a 10-9 lead in the series, picked up a 21-7 win over the Rams last year. Havelock’s last win was a 42-21 nod in 2000.
The Rams are coming off a 20-18 win over South Central.
Russell Hardin connected on 12-of-25 passes for 194 yards. He threw his first TD toss of the year, a 15-yarder to Dom Lewis.
Mike Henderson led the ground attack with 188 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.
Henderson has run for 1,382 yards this season.
Senior running back Travis Daniels leads the Pack with 1,570 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. While he did eclipse the 100-yard mark for the ninth straight game last week, Daniels was held out of the end zone for the first time all year.
He enters tonight’s game with 4,448 career rushing yards.
Austin Thompson threw for one score and ran for another last week. The junior quarterback for the Pack has completed 50-of-98 tosses for 677 yards to go with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Jones leads Washington with 30 receptions for 403 yards and five scores. The senior has added 256 rushing yards and another two scores.
Mike Moore has snagged 15 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns.
Justin Meekins, who is averaging 34.4 yards per punt, has converted 32 of 36 PATs.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jones and Tony Turnage have five interceptions apiece.
The Pack closes regular-season play next Friday night at West Carteret.
