Area runners headed toward state meet

Washington’s Jessica Rogers and the Northside Panthers will be competing in the state cross country championships this weekend at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons.
Rogers qualified for the NCHSAA Class 3-A meet after placing ninth overall in a time of 21 minutes, 7 seconds at regionals.
Both the Northside boys and girls teams qualified for the 1-A state meet.
The Panther boys squad captured third at regionals. Making the trip to the state meet will be Alex Cutler, James Cadle, Bryant Fletcher, Jakob Pernov, Andrew Cadle, Brandon Waters and Codie Carawam.
Northside finished eighth in the 2006 state meet.
The Northside girls team finished second at regionals. Heading to the state meet will be Katie Bowen, Molly Hardison, Ashley Clayton, Elizabeth Harris, Katie Smith, Brooke Leigh and Callie Leigh.
Northside finished seventh in the 2006 state meet.
Joining the Panthers at the 1-A boys state meet will be Williamston’s Stephen Silverthorne and Bruce Hutchinson, along with Dwayne Roberson of Bear Grass.
Taylor Downs of Bear Grass will join Northside in the 1-A girls state meet.
The 1-A boys will race at 10 a.m. and the 1-A girls will race at 11 a.m.
The 3-A girls race starts at 3 p.m.
Admission is $6.
