A victory tonight would give the Washington Pam Pack the top seed among the Class 3-A teams from the Coastal Conference.
Washington (7-3, 4-2), which snapped a two-game skid with a 34-0 victory over Havelock on Monday, wraps up the regular season tonight at West Carteret (1-9, 0-6). While the Pack is tied with West Craven (7-3, 4-2), who plays at Havelock tonight, for third place overall and first among the 3-A teams in the Coastal Conference, Washington owns the tiebreaker by virtue of a 14-13 win over the Eagles on Oct. 5.
The Pack holds a 14-12-1 series lead over the Patriots. Washington claimed a 31-7 victory last year. West Carteret’s last win was a 34-16 nod in 2004.
Sawyer, 23-23 overall in four seasons at Washington, can earn his eighth victory of the season tonight. That would give him his most wins at Washington since going 7-5 in 2005.
A win would also give the Pack its most wins since the 1999 campaign, when Brian Paschal guided Washington to an 11-2 record.
That’s also the last year the Pack won a playoff game.
Washington will take on a West Carteret team tonight that has dropped seven straight. The Patriots’ lone win of the season came Aug. 31 with a 35-21 victory over Croatan.
The Pack is averaging 27.6 points per game and allowing just 10.5 a contest. The 276 points scored is the most produced by a Sawyer-led team.
Travis Daniels leads the Pack ground attack with 1,691 yards and 17 touchdowns. The senior has rushed for over 100 yards in each game this season.
Daniels has rushed for 4,569 yards and 52 touchdowns in his career.
Austin Thompson, coming off a three-touchdown performance against Havelock, has clicked on 54-of-105 passes for 804 yards. The junior has thrown 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Thompson has also scored twice on the ground.
Jamont Jones has been Thompson’s favorite target. The senior has hauled in 33 receptions for 519 yards and seven touchdowns, including 11 catches for 244 yards and three scores over the last two games.
Jones has added 253 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, along with a kickoff return for a score.
Mike Moore (15 catches for 263 yards and four touchdowns) and Dakuan Spencer (11 receptions for 79 yards and two scores) also have double-digit catches.
C.J. Jefferson had contributed 173 yards and two scores on the ground, while Roray Razor has raced for 176 yards and a pair of scores.
Justin Meekins has converted 36 of 41 PATs and owns a 35.0 average on 44 punts.
Cody Cunningham leads the Pack with 86 tackles, followed by Chase Tripp (71) and Justin “Weasel” Moore (70). Tripp has 15 tackles for loss, including eight quarterback sacks.
Jones has a team-best six interceptions, followed closely by Tony Turnage with five and Spencer with four.
D.J. McKinney has four fumble recoveries and Tripp three.
