Rogers caps cross country career at state meet

CLEMMONS — Jessica Rogers finished her high school cross country career running at the NCHSAA Class 3-A state meet on Saturday.
The Washington senior placed 81st out of 126 runners. Rogers was clocked in 22 minutes, 36.56 seconds.
The Northside girls captured 11th place and the Panther boys 15th in Saturday’s NCHSAA Class 1-A state cross country meets at Tanglewood Park.
Sophomore Katie Bowen was Northside’s top finisher in the girls race, finishing 48th overall in 23:38.51.
Bowen was followed in by senior Molly Harrison (60th, 24:04.83), junior Ashley Clayton (72nd, 24:31.55), sophomore Elizabeth Harris (97th, 25:48.16) and freshman Katie Smith (100th, 26:09.73).
Also running but not figuring in the final totals were senior Brooke Leigh (105th, 26:43.37) and junior Callie Leigh (116th, 28:00.89).
Taylor Downs of Bear Grass finished 57th in 24:02.08.
Topsail sophomore Zatha Loewen was the overall winner among the 121 runners in 19:38.69. That helped Topsail win the team championship.
James Cadle was the top finisher for the Northside boys, finishing 83rd in 19:42.86. He was trailed by sophomore Alex Cutler (87th, 19:52.68), senior Jakob Pernov (96th, 20:19.84), senior Andrew Cadle (99th, 20:28.04) and sophomore Bryant Fletcher (108th, 20:49.4).
Also running for Northside but not figuring in the team standings were freshman Codie Carawam (113th, 21:14.34) and senior Brandon Waters (117th, 21:50.53).
Williamston sophomore Stephen Silverthorne took 82nd in 19:41.13 while teammate Bruce Hutchinson, a junior, finished 115th in 21:30.70.
Bear Grass junior Dwayne Roberson was 110th in 20:56.72.
Senior Daniel Kimmel of NC School of Science and Math was the overall winner out of the 130 runners with a 17:12 clocking.
Former Southside High School standout Jordan Knox, now with NC School of Science and Math, finished 45th overall in 18:50.47.
East Wilkes won the team championship.
