Josie Maye Paul Boyette died September 27, 2007 in Fullerton, California after a short illness. Josie Maye, 88, was a native of North Carolina, the middle child of 13 siblings born to Joseph and Lucy Paul of Bath. In recent years she enjoyed sharing her time between her daughter in Fullerton, CA and her sisters Ernestine Bunn in Roanoke Rapids, NC and LaVon Lewis of Morehead City, NC. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister. She shared her fashion and sewing talents with many. Her granddaughter’s National Charity League formal, her daughter-in-law’s bridal gown, and costumes for her grandchildren’s scouting activities and school plays were products of her creative mind and talented hands. During recent Christmases, she could always be found decorating a tree for the Mother Goose Guild of Children’s hospital in Orange, CA.
In her youth, Josie Maye attended the University of Minnesota, drafted patterns for solder’s uniforms in Norfolk, VA, and was the owner of Fashion Adventive in Rochester, NY. After selling her shop, she was a fashion designer for Graver’s Bridal shop, designing and coordinating many bridal parties in Rochester, NY. Before her retirement, her elf costumes at Belk’s in Morehead City delighted the local holiday shoppers. Her talents, devotion to family, and general zest for life will be missed by all. She is survived by one daughter; Phylis Niccolai of Fullerton, CA, one son; Joseph Fustanio of Boca Raton, FL, two sisters; Ernestine Bunn of Roanoke Rapids, Gwyn VanZant of Fayetteville, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Donnie Turner, LaVon Lewis, and five brothers: John Wright Paul, Mack Paul, Hal “Buck” Paul, Ray Paul and Archie Glenn Paul. Her memorial service will be held 3 p.m., November 10, 2007 at St. Claire’s Church of Christ, Bath, NC. The family requests any memoriam go to your local Hospice group or charity of your choice.
