Arthur R. “Mr. Bob” Tombs

Mr. Arthur Robert “Mr. Bob” Tombs, 74, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday in Paul Funeral Home, Washington, with Ken Cash officiating.
Mr. Tombs was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Dec. 4, 1932. He was the son of the late Arthur Frank Tombs and Agnes Stuart Tombs. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1950. On Aug. 19, 1952, he married Mary Lou Gilchrist, who survives. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired after 40 years of work as a railroad engineer for Union Railroad and for U.S. Steel. He was also a carpenter contractor.
Survivors include four children, Peggy Lou Eldridge, Bobby Tombs, Grace Yanek and Chip Tombs; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Amanda Tombs.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4-5 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington.
