James A. ‘California’ Credle

Mr. James Allen “California” Credle Sr., 75, a resident of Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home, Washington, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 at Ridgewood Manor.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at St. James Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Belhaven with elder Barry James officiating. Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery, Belhaven.
Mr. Credle was born Feb. 17, 1932 in Hyde County. He was the son of the late Fannie Bell Gibbs and Andrew Credle. He was a graduate of the Hyde County schools. He was employed as a seafood processor. He was a member of St. James Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) and served as a Sunday school teacher and was chairman of the deacon board and a trustee.
He was married to Mary Willis Gibbs Credle who preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, James Credle Jr. of Belhaven; two brothers, Vernon Holloway of Houma, La., and Otto Credle of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Lizzie Whichard Wilson, Ophelia Credle and Lannie Credle, all of Brooklyn, N.Y. and two grandchildren.
The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the home of Veronica Moore, 358 Georgia St., Belhaven.
Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
