Mr. Alec Fain Sherley, age 65, a resident of 5969 Elks Road, Grimesland, NC died Friday November 23, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be held 10 a.m. Thursday November 29, 2007 at the NC Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.
Mr. Sherley was born in Snyder, Texas on November 15, 1942 son of the late Francis Edward Sherley and the late Bertie Burnett Jackson Sherley. He was a 1960 graduate of Norwalk High School in Norwalk, CA. Mr. Sherley served his country in the US Marines having served during Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the line of duty. During his military career he studied in the field of engineering, which he continued in his civilian life. Mr. Sherley worked with several companies that contracted with the US Government and NASA. He was a member of the VFW Washington Post 6088 and Washington Moose Lodge 1800.
Survivors include a daughter: Saundra S. Pinkham and her husband Roger of Grimesland; a son: Robert Alec Sherley, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth of Greenville; a sister: Billie S Myers of Huston TX; five grandchildren: Robert Alec Sherley, Jr., Franklin Foster Lee Cook, Brittany R. Pinkham, Kenney Sherley and Casey Everette and Mr. Sherley’s beloved caregiver Helen Pinkham of Bath. Mr. Sherley was preceded in death by a daughter: Tina Louise Sherley; two sons: Edward Foster Sherley and Larry Lee Cook and a brother: Frankie Joe Sherley.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. Sherley’s daughter Saundra Pinkham located at 5969 Elks Road, Grimesland, NC.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to VFW Washington Post 6088, P.O. Box 362, Washington, NC 27889.
