Mrs. Helen Deans Bailey of 1417 Highland Drive, Washington, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington, with Elder Russell S. Wilkins officiating.
Mrs. Bailey was born Nov. 8, 1939, the daughter of the late Jesse and Emma Mullins Deans. She graduated from P. S. Jones High School. She was married to Arthur Bailey, who preceded her in death. She retired after 20 years as a traffic clerk with New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. (now Verizon). She was also employed with the City of Washington water department. She was a member of St. John Church of Christ, where she was a member of the care ministry and treasurer of St. John’s Housing.
Survivors include one daughter, Aletha Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one son, Clifton V. Sykes of Newark, N.J.; four sisters, Wynell Sams and Edna Woodward, both of Newark, N.J., Carolyn Pitts of Chocowinity and Evelyn Mayfield of Washington; three brothers, Leroy Deans and Aaron Deans, both of Washington, and Willie Deans of Jacksonville; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Clemmie Mae Deans and one brother, Raymond Price.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington.
