Mark Paul Gibbons, 51, of 3534 Hodges Road, Scranton, died early Saturday, Dec. 1. 2007 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Born in Lawrence, Kansas, August 15, 1955, he was the son of Kenneth Gibbons and Judith Gibbons who both survive. He retired from the United States Coast Guard as a Boatswains Mate First Class and was the recipient of the Extraordinary Heroism Medal and Award presented for heroic service while serving on the Coast Guard Cutter Tamaroa off the coast of Gloucester, Mass. After retiring from the service, he worked with the N. C. Department of Transportation for ten years at the Swan Quarter yard. He participated in the men’s league recreation program in Belhaven during the summer seasons.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Bryan Funeral Service. The Reverend Mark Morgan, Pastor of Swan Quarter Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery.
Surviving are his father, Kenneth Gibbons of Frederick, Maryland; his mother, Judith Gibbons of McLean, Virginia; three sisters, Patty Walsh of Frisco, Colorado, Susan Cohen of Centennial, Colorado and Judy Biltcliffe of Oakdale, Conneticutt.
