Mr. Ralph E. “Turk” Overton, 66, of Roper, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Plymouth Church of The Nazarene with the Revs. Tim Lichtley and Steve Creech officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Overton was born in Washington County on July 23, 1941. He was the son of the late Seaton E. and Mary Armstrong Overton. He was married to Joyce Stocks Overton, who survives. He was a retired fiber line operator with Weyerhaeuser Corp. He was active in the Albemarle Hunting Club and Plymouth Old Car Club. He was a member of Plymouth Church of The Nazarene.
Survivors include one daughter, Christian O. Pointer of Killen, Ala.; three sons, David W. Phelps and Travis R. Phelps, both of New Orleans, La., and Layne Phelps of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Linda O. Lee of Vanceboro; one stepsister, Ann Bartholomew of Raleigh; one stepbrother, Bonnie Ray Lilley of Plymouth and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Cynthia Overton.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Plymouth Church of The Nazarene Sunday following the funeral service.
