Lizzie Mae Credle Britton, 95, of Swan Quarter, died early Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the home of her nephew and his wife, Tom and Jeanne Credle of Edenton.
Born in Hyde County April 14, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Martin and Lizzie Payne Credle. She received her education in the former Swan Quarter School, worked as a clerk at the Hyde County Health Department during the 1930s. She married Andrew Jackson Britton in 1941 and lived in Conway until his death in 1979. She was a member of Home Extension Service for more than 50 years between Hyde and Northampton counties. She was a faithful member of Providence United Methodist Church, Swan Quarter, N.C. for many years. One of her special places of service in the church was teaching young children. She was a member and leader in the Conway United Methodist Church for 38 years where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. She returned her membership to Providence United Methodist Church and later Soule United Methodist Church, Swan Quarter, N.C. In 2002 she moved to Edenton and became an associate member of Edenton United Methodist Church where she received her 75 year pin for membership in the United Methodist Women in 2006.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Providence United Methodist Church in Swan Quarter. Steve Bryan and the Reverend Charles Moseley will preside and eulogies will be offered by her step grandson, Buzzy Boseman; and nephews, Thomas P. Credle and Richard P. Credle. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
Surviving her is a step-daughter, Mary Lou Boseman of Rocky Mount; two stepgrandchildren, Robert R. Boseman and Carol B. Taylor; and five nephews, Thomas P. Credle, Richard P. Credle, Paul E. Credle, Mike P. Credle and David P. Credle.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Alva C. Wise and Beatrice C. Williams; brothers, Milbern Credle, Burnice Credle and Edward Credle.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to University Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday until the hour of the funeral and after the interment in the fellowship hall of the Providence Church.
