Herman Walter Cohoon, 89, of 2668 North Gum Neck Road, Columbia, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at his home.
Born in Tyrrell County, March 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Henry Walter and Minnie Combs Cohoon. He was married to Doris Everton Cohoon who preceded him in death in 1984. He was a retired farmer as well as a retail merchant and operated Doris’ Store in Gum Neck. He was a charter member of Columbia Lodge #678 A.F.&A.M. And was active in Cedar Grove United Methodist Church where he held many offices through the years. He spent a number of years in the Civilian Conservation Corps in camps in Washington, N.C. as well as the State of Oregon.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Gum Neck. The Reverend James Koo and Steve Bryan will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Hal Walter Cohoon of Greenville and Mike Everett Cohoon of Columbia; a brother, Elwood Cahoon of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Minnie Mae Snell of Creswell and Annie Williams of Chesapeake, Va.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials may be directed to Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, North Gum Neck Road, Columbia, NC 27925.
