CLAYTON — Lynwood I. Powell, 89, died Dec. 23, 2007. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 411 N. Fayetteville St., Clayton, with Dr. Mark White officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service and interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Clayton.
As a member of the Clayton Civitans, he coached Little League baseball for 30 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Leonard Moore Post 71 and Granite Lodge 191.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry White Powell; daughters, Mary Lynne Brisley and husband, Peter, of Asheboro and Dale Powell Peele and husband, Bill, of Bath; son, Lynwood I. Powell, Jr. (Sonny) of New York, N.Y.; sister, Virginia Moreland of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Will Brisley and wife, Winfree, Rob and Drew Brisley and Marella and Ben Peele; stepson, Steve White and stepdaughter, Jackie Cobb. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Gupton Powell and a brother, B.C. Powell.
