When the tennis season started, there were more questions than answers for the Washington Pam Pack.
Coach Diane Cuffie had to fill all six spots that were dominated by seniors last year. By the end of the season, Washington’s three seniors helped to answer those pre-season questions.
Lauren Allen, Liza Page and Molly Edwards took it upon themselves to be leaders on and off the court. The team rallied around the three seniors and the Pack went on to have a successful season.
Because of their play and leadership, Allen, Page and Edwards were named the 2007-08 WDN Co-Tennis Players of the Year.
Edwards said she’s glad she can share the honor with two of her best friends.
Following Washington’s final home match, Cuffie said she was pleased with her three seniors.
Edwards said she and her senior classmates took it upon themselves to prove the doubters wrong.
Page said that having the team’s full support helped throughout the season.
Edwards, who said the highlight of her season came when she and doubles partner Mary Potocki won a crucial match against West Carteret to keep Washington’s playoff hopes alive, said Cuffie and Dale Peele were instrumental in her success.
Allen and Page seemed to reach their peak at the right time. The duo won at the Coastal Conference tournament to advance to the regional tournament.
Page said advancing to the regional meet was a great way to cap off the season.
Allen was able to succeed in tennis despite keeping a busy schedule. The senior, who is also a Pam Pack cheerleader, would often practice one sport immediately after the other.
Winning some matches and getting to bond with her friends on the court made it all the more special for Edwards.
