Mr. Joshua “Josh” Wright Mills, Sr., age 85, a resident of 61 N.C. Hwy. 33 East, Chocowinity died Thursday afternoon, January 17, 2008 in Washington.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. on Sunday January 20, 2008 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by Dr. Richard D. Sheriff. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Mr. Mills was born in Beaufort County on April 23, 1922, son of the late Joseph Cleveland Mills and Lucy Mae Smith Mills. He was a 1942 graduate of Chocowinity High School. On March 9, 1943, he married the former Lyndal A. Dixon, who survives. He was owner/operator of Smith Mills Pontiac-Buick and J.M. Motors in Williamston. He was co-owner of 5 J’s Inc. in Baltimore, Md. Mr. Mills was a member of the Optimist Club in Baltimore, the American Legion in Washington and the First Baptist Church in Chocowinity.
In addition to his wife, Lyndal of the home, he is survived by his sons: Josh Mills, Jr. and wife, Donna of Baltimore, Md. and Joe David Mills and his wife, Carol of Washington; his five grandchildren: Joe David Mills, Jr. of Newport, Jennifer Mills and Olivia Dorroll and her husband, Phil all of Wilmington, Beth Flynn of Baltimore, Md. and Bradley Burman of San Jose, Calif.; his four great- grandchildren: David and Caleb of Newport and Brianna and Kyle of Baltimore, Md.; his sister: Lucy Mae Alligood of Washington; his special caregiver, Sue Nobles and many friends, near and far. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
