Mrs. Carrie Whitehurst Matthews, 99, of 502 N. Main St., Robersonville, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at the Vintage Inn.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Biggs Funeral Home, Robersonville, with Chris Minton officiating. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Pitt County on Aug. 25, 1908. She was the daughter of the late Ed and Inez Sykes Whitehurst. On Nov. 21, 1926, she married Pleasant M. Matthews, who preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1973. She was a homemaker. She was the oldest member of Parmele Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Clifton Matthews of Williamston and Edward Matthews of Bethel; four sisters, Clara Williams and Georgia Oakley, both of Greenville, Catherine Bullock of Stokes and Edna Steiner of LaCross, Wis.; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs funeral Home and other times at 1400 Spring Green Road, Williamston.
