Mr. Jack Harden Britt Sr., 87, of Roper, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Plumblee Nursing Center, Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Saints Delight Church of Christ, Roper, with Bob Moulden and Lloyd Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Britt was born in Wakefield, Va., on Dec. 13, 1920. He was the son of the late George R. and Lena Branch Britt. He was an Army veteran of World War II and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4023. He was married to Polly Hamilton Britt of Roper, who survives. He was a retired machine tender with Weyerhaeuser Corp. He was president of the United Paperworkers International Union No. 1423 for 28 years. He was a member of Zions Chapel Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Pam K. Britt of Roper; one son, Robert W. “Bobby” Britt of Plymouth; his former wife, Naomi Skiles Britt of Plymouth; two stepsons, John H. Floyd of Plymouth and Fred G. Floyd of Roper and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jack H. Britt Jr.; seven sisters, Emma B. Bailey, Selma B. Mitchell, Beulah B. Epps, Minnie B. Price, Ruth B. Garrett, Melissa Britt and Daisy B. Barrett; and five brothers, Willie D. Britt, Sherlock H. Britt, Robert R. Britt, George H. Britt and Charles A. Britt.
The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the fellowship hall of Saints Delight Church of Christ, Roper, and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
