Mrs. Mary Alice “Mae Alice” Gibbs Taylor, 61, of Rivercreek Estates, Washington, and formerly of 2107 Mill Road, Evergreen Estates community, Chocowinity, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Temple of Jesus Christ United Church with Bishop James Woolard officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 12, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Clem and Mary S. Gibbs. She attended the Beaufort County Schools. She was married to Michael B. Taylor, who survives. She pursued a career in nursing and was employed by Beaufort County Hospital prior to her declining health.
Survivors include two daughters, Valarie G. Wilkinson and Sheri Gibbs, both of Washington; two sisters, Devonne Thompson and Pamela Blount, both of Washington; three brothers, George Gibbs Sr., Johnny Gibbs Sr. and Ronald Gibbs Sr., all of Washington; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Gibbs.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Sheri Gibbs, 457 Blake St., Rivercreek Estates, Washington. A walk-in visitation will be held today from 1-8 p.m. at Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington.
