Mr. Louis Franklin Barber, 81, a resident of 1346 Tom Hadley Road, Williamston, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Biggs Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Sam Bullock officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Barber was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Martin County. He was the son of the late Dennis Hubert Barber and Essie Mae Perry Barber. He was a retired construction worker. He was a veteran of the Army, having served in World War II. He was married to Sarah Edwards Barber, his first wife who preceded him in death. He was a member of Reddick’s Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Downs Barber; a daughter, Louise B. Ward of Hertford; two sons, Frankie Barber and Wade Barber, both of Williamston; a sister, Ruth B. Jones of Williamston; three brothers, Grover Barber of Williamston, Hubert Barber of Jamesville and Paul Barber of Sherill’s Ford; two stepdaughters Shelia Tyre and Wanda Murphy, both of Williamston; a stepson, Leslie Beacham Jr. of Williamston; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Biggs Funeral Home, Williamston, and other times at the home.
