Mrs. Violet Christine Rose Sawyer, age 82, a resident of 1151 West Pungo Street, Belhaven, NC died Sunday February 10, 2008 at her home.
On February 10, 2008 our loving and dear mama and nanny was called home. She will be forever remembered in our hearts and will be missed more than words could ever say. We find our comfort in knowing she is resting with our Lord and Savior and know we all have that same assurance. We will see her again for all eternity.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday February 13, 2008 at West Belhaven Church of Christ officiated by Bob Beltz and Jon Langley. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Sawyer’s grandsons: Sport Sawyer, Kevin Sawyer, Clay Cooper, Ryan Cooper, Chris Craddock and a grandson-in-law, Lee Williamson.
Mrs. Sawyer was born in Hyde County on March 4, 1925, daughter of the late Ira Rose, Sr. and the late Gladys Lee McKinney Rose. She attended Hyde County and Beaufort County Schools. Mrs. Sawyer married Thomas Ruffin Sawyer on June 20, 1942, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of West Belhaven Church of Christ.
Surviving along with Mrs. Sawyer’s husband Thomas of the home are three daughters: Patricia S. Cooper and husband Larry of Elizabeth City, Carolyn S. Craddock and husband Rayvon of Belhaven and Kathy Sawyer of Belhaven; a son: Freddie Sawyer and wife Diane of Belhaven; two sisters: Mary Powell of Belhaven and Iris Furlough of Washington; eight grandchildren: Sport Sawyer and wife Susan of Belhaven, Kevin Sawyer and wife Belinda of Washington, Lisa Cooper of Greenville, Mandy Williamson and husband Lee of Elizabeth City, Clay Cooper and wife Stephanie of Elizabeth City, Ryan Cooper and wife Alison of Elizabeth City, Chris Craddock of Belhaven and Carson Sawyer of Belhaven and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Sawyer was preceded in death by a sister: Mable Cuthrell and two brothers: Ira Rose, Jr. and Coleman Rose.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today February 12, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and at other times at the home.
