Mrs. Alice Virginia Sawyer Sadler, 90, a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Center and formerly of the Scranton community, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at Cross Creek.
A funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in Rose Bay Baptist Church with Steve Bryan and Sam Eburn Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
C.D. Gibbs, Dewey Sawyer, Larry Phelps, Paul Cohn, Lee Williams, Barry Equils and Steve Sawyer will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Sawyer and Wayne Sawyer.
Mrs. Sadler was born in Hyde County on March 7, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Becton and Aileen Pegram Sawyer. She was married to Ellis Dalton Sadler, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Rose Bay Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy S. Equils and Faye S. Gibbs, both of Washington; one brother, Roger Sawyer of Plymouth; three sisters, Doris Phelps of Manteo, Nell Lee of Richlands and Hilda O’Neal of Fairfield; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of her grandson, Barry Equils, 1581 New Lands Road, Fairfield.
