Mrs. Nedgelena Elizabeth Morgan Speight of Whispering Pines, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cashie Baptist Church with the Rev. Reese Blanchett officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Page Memorial Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
Mrs. Speight was born in Harnett County on Sept. 30, 1926. She was the daughter of the late William and Mamie Lee Morgan. She was a graduate of Angier High School and a 1947 graduate of Meredith College. On July 30, 1947, she married Thomas Sharrock Speight, who preceded her in death in 1989. She lived in Windsor for 41 years and taught school for 32 years in Angier and Bertie County. She served as Sandhills Book Club president for several years and was a member of Deltas Kappa Gamma, Gamma Sigma Chapter. She was a member of Page Memorial United Methodist Church in Aberdeen, where she was active in her circle.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Sharrock Speight Jr. of Fayetteville; one daughter, Nedgelena “Betsy” Speight Jennings of New Bern; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one brother, William Marshall Morgan of Groveland, Fla.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Whitfield Lee Morgan.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor.
