William Starr “Bill” Davis, Sr., 85, of Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Davis was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and an Army Air Corps veteran.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William A. “German” Davis and his mother, Geneva Davis Boeckmann, and stepfather, Joseph von Boeckmann.
Mr. Davis was the widower of Kathleen Cross Davis, who died November 16, 2007. He, along with his late wife, owned and operated Davis Realty &Insurance Company. Bill was appointed to the original Roanoke Rapids Planning Board, where he served for twenty-five years. He was chairman of the Board for the majority of that time.
He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids.
Bill is survived by his son, William S. “Bill” Davis, Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Chocowinity, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2008 at All Saints Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dr. Marjorie H. Holm and the Rev. J. M. “Sonny” Browne officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
Askew Funeral &Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church Brotherhood, 635 Hamilton Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half staff in honor of Mr. Davis’ service to his country.
