Mr. Robert “Bob” Earl Alligood, 81, of 5423 Broad Creek Road, Washington, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service, Washington, with Tony Krantz officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Dal Latham, Robert Singleton, Doug Alligood, Tommy Alligood, Johnny Alligood and Allen O’Neal will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on Feb. 18, 1927. He was the son of the late Clarence William Alligood and Hilda Hawkins Alligood. He attended Bath High School and was a Navy veteran, serving in St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Japan and Australia. He was married to Margaret O’Neal Alligood, who survives. He was a retired port engineer in the oil industry. He was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Robin Alligood Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Ann Roberts of Washington; four stepsons, Archie O’Neal Jr. and Allen O’Neal, both of Washington, and Fred Henzler and Steve Henzler of Wisconsin; and two brothers, Dan Alligood of Washington and Jack Alligood of Belhaven.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dick Alligood and Norman Alligood.
The family will receive friends today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service, Washington, and other times at the home.
