Joseph B. Paul

Mr. Joseph B. Paul, age 83, of 7339 Core Point Road, Core Point community of Blounts Creek, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at his home.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 3 p.m. with military honors at the Warren Cemetery, Cox’s Crossroads, Blounts Creek.
Mr. Paul was born in Beaufort County on April 10, 1924 to the late Rufus Alvin Paul and Josephine Rodgers Paul. He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers, and by his most dearly loved wife, Georgia Cutler Paul. He is survived by two sons, two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren: Joseph A. Paul and his wife, Julia Paul and their children, Alison Paul and Austin Paul; Michael A. Paul and his wife, Penny Paul and their children, Katie Paul and Michael A. Paul, Jr., and his wife, Ashley Paul, and their children, Liam Paul and Rylan Paul.
The family will receive friends at the visitation from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, and at other times at the home at Core Point.
At the age of 17, Mr. Paul joined the United States Navy to see the world beyond the farm fields and the banks of the Pamlico at Core Point. Over the next four years he would travel around the world twice, meet his own brothers and neighbors in the most unlikely of places, and marry the love of his life. After the entry of the United States into World War II he served two years in the Pacific as Gunners Mate First Class aboard two minesweepers, YMS 53 and YMS 441. From Australia and New Guinea GM1C Paul made his way during the progress of the war to the Phillipines and Okinawa, and was among the first of the navy ships to enter Tokyo Bay to conduct mine sweeping operations prior to the formal surrender of the Japanese Imperial forces. Mr. Paul and his generation saved our world.
Mr. Paul was retired from PCS Phosphate, formerly Texasgulf, Inc.
