Mr. Hollis Ford Murph, 93, of Plymouth, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Plumblee Nursing Center in Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted today at 2:30 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home-Horner Chapel in Plymouth, with the Rev. Frank Alexander officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Murph was born in Davidson County on Jan. 9, 1915. He was the son of the late Arthur Ford and Essie Fritts Murph. He was a World War II veteran, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. He was married to Vaudie Murph, who survives. Early in life he was a farmer and construction worker until opening Murph Brothers Tire Service with his brother, Fritz, which they owned and operated until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Mackeys United Methodist Church, Roper.
Survivors include four sons, Artie Murph, Fred Murph and Larry Murph, all of Plymouth, and Darrell Murph of Grimesland; two daughters, Harlen Murph Phipps of Georgetown, S.C., and Sharon Murph Yates of Cary; one brother, Ellis Murph of Shallotte; two sisters, Essie Billings and Jessie Greene of Lexington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Norman Murph, Roy Gilbert Murph and Fritz Filmore Murph.
The family will receive friends today from noon to the funeral hour at Walker Funeral Home-Horner Chapel in Plymouth, and other times at the home.
