Mrs. Ruthie Jones Nelson of 909 Magnolia School Road, Washington, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Olive AME Zion Church with the Rev. David L. Ollison Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Pamlico County on Feb. 22, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Allen and Nicey Farrow Jones. She attended the Pamlico County Schools and Beaufort County Community College, where she received her certification in nursing. She was employed for many years at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington and as a private duty nurse for several families in the Washington area. She was a member of Mount Olive AME Zion Church, where she served as a deaconess, senior choir member, on the stewardess and missionary boards and as class leader.
Survivors include one sister, Lila Mae Cooper of Florence, N.C.
The family will receive friends today from 2-7 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington, and other times at the home of her niece, the Rev. Glenda Lodge, 909 Magnolia School Road, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olive AME Zion Church Building Fund.
