Mr. Thomas Gillam III, 83, of 210 E. Pitt St., Windsor, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Heritage Hospital in Tarboro.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church with the Rev. Joseph Cooper officiating.
Mr. Gillam was born in Windsor on Nov. 3, 1924. He was the son of the late Margaret Elizabeth Manning and Thomas Gillam Jr. He graduated from Hargrave Military Academy and East Carolina University. He served in the Army during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He taught history at Bertie High School and substituted in other local schools after his retirement. He served as docent at Hope Plantation. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two great-nephews, Andrew Wales and Graham Wales, both of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the parish house of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
