Oh, those nasty April showers.
A week’s worth of rain wreaked havoc on the Pam Pack tennis teams’ practice schedule, and forced postponement after postponement this past week.
And when the Pack finally got back on the court, the rust was evident.
D.H. Conley won five of six singles matches and swept doubles competition from Washington as the Vikings cruised past the Pam Pack, 8-1 on Thursday night.
The Pam Pack’s lone victory came at No. 5 singles where Josh Carter slipped past Conley’s Brian Wagner, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 1 singles, Conley’s Jeff Holoman downed Archie Griffin, 6-4, 6-2. The No. 2 match went to Andrew Neade, who blanked Robert Dail 6-0, 6-0. Zack Foster defeated Joshua Ellis, 6-2, 6-0 at the third spot, while Matt Batchelor lost his singles match to Colman Spain of D.H. Conley, 6-1, 6-1. The Pam Pack also lost the final singles match as the Vikings’ Manato Takahashi defeated Gray Stone, 6-3, 6-1.
Coach Elks believes that the Pam Pack’s misfortune in singles action carried over to doubles, where the Pam Pack lost all three matches.
while the Pack struggled in scoring matches, they managed to sweep three exhibition matches, with Brandon Niederhouser, Zach Ware, and Lea Rodriguez all earning victories.
With rain forecast for the next couple of days, the Pack might find it difficult to get back on the court before Monday. But the good news for Washington is that on Tuesday, they will square off with South Central, a team they beat on the road earlier this season.
