Mr. Clemoth “Elbert” Jones, age 92, a resident of 726 North White Post Road, Pinetown, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Belhaven, conducted by Dennis R. Davis and Jim Bussell. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
The following will serve as active pallbearers: Stuart Ricks, Bonner Allen, Ronnie Gibbs, Ernie Everett, James Everett, and Jim Satterthwaite. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Craig, Billy Baynor, Jimmy Windley, Ronnie Everett, and Gilbert Radcliffe.
Mr. Jones was born in Beaufort County on March 14, 1916. He was the son of the late Herbert Jones and Lillie Bell Cartwright Jones. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Jones, known by many as “Pantego” Jones, worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad Company for 32 years, retiring as a conductor. After his retirement, he became an accomplished woodworker.
Mr. Jones was a lifelong member and past board member of the Pantego Christian Church. He also attended Everett’s Church of Christ. Mr. Jones was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a past member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, the Lions Club and Ruritan Club.
On August 28, 1937, Mr. Jones married the former Gladys Virginia Gray, who preceded him in death, July 12, 1981.
Survivors include a son, Clemoth “Earl” Jones and his wife, Lil of Peachtree City, Ga.; a daughter, Virginia Jones Everett of Pinetown; a sister, Vida Jones Everett of Pinetown; five grandchildren, Lori Jones Kozusnik and husband, Mike of Newnan, Ga., Gregory Earl Jones of Lawrenceville, Ga., Lynnette Everett, Kevin Glenn Everett and his wife, Jennifer, Kelly Bruce Everett and his fianc/e, Wanda Cahoon all of Pinetown; nine grandchildren, Christopher Kozusnik, Christopher Everett, Kellie “K.C.” Everett, Ryan Walston, Candace Everett, Nikki Kozusnik, Renay Walston, Devin Everett and Brandon Kozusnik and very dear friend, Jean Edwards of Bath.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bruce Glenn Everett; half-brother, Eddie Jones; half sister, Rosa Jones Chaplain; and two sisters, Hila Jones Johnson and June Jones Dunbar.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, Belhaven and other times at the home his daughter, Virginia Everett, 726 N. White Post Road, Pinetown.
