Hershel Glenn Campbell Jr., loving husband and father, 82, of Washington, N.C., died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Kingswood Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Washington, N.C.
Mr. Campbell was born on February 13, 1926, in Crestline, Ohio, son of the late Hershel and Alice Campbell of Oil City, Penn. Mr. Campbell attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Penn. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Seabee in the Navy in the South Pacific. After the Navy, he worked 45 years with the railroad. He worked for Pennsylvania RR, Penn Central RR and Long Island RR before joining Amtrak. He retired as director of bridges and buildings for Amtrak in Philadelphia, Penn., in 1988.
Hershel Campbell is survived by his wife Pauline, wife of 59 years; two daughters, Wendy Voss of Southern Pines and Linda Slocum of Cary, N.C.; two sons, Glenn Campbell of Richardson, Texas, and David Campbell of West Chester, Penn.; his sister, Martha Leininger of Pittsburgh, Penn.; his brother, Charles Campbell of West Chester, Penn.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 2 stepgrandsons.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Media, Penn. Hershel and Pauline have enjoyed their retirement in Washington, N.C., for the past 20 years, enjoying family and friends.
