Mr. William Arnold “Bill” Williamson, 61, a resident of Blounts Creek, died Saturday, April 4, 2008.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 pm in the Trinity Episcopal Church at Chocowinity, N.C., with a reception following at the church.
Bill lived most of his life in Greenville, N.C. He was a 1964 graduate of J. H. Rose High School and served as senior class president. Bill was a veteran of the U. S. Army, and after his military service received degrees from Pitt Community College and East Carolina University. He was employed at NACCO Materials Handling Group for 34 years. He had made his home in Blounts Creek since 2004 and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Baseball was his passion. He taught and shared his love of baseball with his sons. Bill coached Travis and Russell in the Winterville Recreation League for the Pitt Bulldogs and the Greenville Little League for Jarman’s Auto. He continued to support his love of baseball by watching his great-nephew, Frankie, play for the Greenville Lions.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Leon F. Williamson, and a sister, Barbara Williamson Johnston.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sallie Williamson; sons, Neil Travis Williamson of the U. S. Army, now stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., and Russell Alex Williamson of Wilmington, N.C.; mother, Ohlyne Bethea Williamson of Greenville; brother, Leon F. Williamson, III and wife, Charlotte, of Blounts Creek; sister, Linda Williamson Nobles and husband, Rickey, of Sevierville, Tenn.; brother-in-law, W. H. Wylie and wife, Becky, of Buford, Ga.; nine nieces and nephews and 3 great-nieces and great-nephews.
