COLERAIN, N.C. — Raeford Harris Brabble, 93, of the 1200 Block of N.C. 42, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
He was a native of Chowan County, the son of the late John William Brabble and Virena Harris Brabble. A devoted husband and father; Jack of all trades — Painter, Carpenter, Wood Worker and Tenant Farmer for 60 years. For the past 14 years he assisted his wife as the church custodian, a member of the Carpenters Shop Church where he served as secretary/treasurer from 1967 until 1978 and as a deacon for 20 years. In 1995 he was made an honorary lifetime Deacon.
He was preceded in Death by his first wife Olivia Lee Brabble and one son Dorsey Frances Brabble.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Audrey Williams Brabble and his children; Raeford H. Jr. and Frances Parker Brabble of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., James Obed and wife Betty Hodges Brabble of Washington, N.C., Olivia (Libby ) and Monnie V. Parker of Ahoskie, David L and Linda Watson Brabble of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Ralph P. and Martha Tillery Brabble of Ahoskie, Jean B. and Richard S. Burkett of Colerain, Ronald E. and Betty Drew Babble of Ahoskie, Floyd L. and Sue Whitehead Brabble of Ahoskie, Glen Ray and Melanie Spivey Brabble of Colerain. He raised three grandchildren as his very own, Annette and Doug Jernigan of Windsor, Thomas Dorsey and Mary Snyder Brabble of Washington, N.C., Andrew James and Ann Mizelle Brabble of Colerain, a brother John Brabble of Edenton, N.C., 23 Grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, with two more on the way. Around 75 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren added to the family not through blood lines but through love lines. An entire church family that adored him and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Carpenters Shop Church with Rev. Wallace Phillips and Rev. Lester Jarrett. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel, 205 N.C. Hwy. 42 West, Ahoskie, N.C. Memorial donations may be made to Carpenter’s Shop Church, 903 S Catherine Creek Rd, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
