Mrs. Essie Mae Jackson Nixon, 91, of 242 Lambs Road, Roper, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Plumblee Nursing Center in Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Roper, with Elder Benny Mackey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Nixon was born in Roper on March 26, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Squire and Mary Eliza Simpson Jackson. She was married to Ernest Lee Nixon Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ).
Survivors include four sons, Ernest Lee Nixon Jr. of Williamston, Robert Nixon of Roper, Virnest Nixon of Plymouth and Dennis Nixon of Robersonville; nine daughters, Erma Lee Creekmore of Wyandanch, N.Y., Mary Cabarrus of Creswell, Cherry Clagon, Lucinda Nixon, Maxine Burnette and Alberta Chesson, all of Roper, and Maggie Nixon, Diane Nixon and Carolyn Nixon, all of the home; one adopted son, Bobby Wilkins of Roper; 55 grandchildren; 109 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Dallas and Tommie; 13 siblings and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Roper.
