Mr. Gentry Earl Elks Sr., 86, of 1404 Horsepen Swamp Road, Washington, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, with pastor Ken Cash officiating. Entombment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Blount Hardy, Allen Hardy, Levie Hardy, Lee Potter, Jimmy Elliott and Grey Thomas Elliott will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Elks was born in Pitt County on Dec. 21, 1921. He was the son of the late William Marshall Elks and Annie Gurganus Elks. He served in the Army during World War II. On Jan. 17, 1948, he married the former Reatha Hardy, who survives. He was a supervisor with National Spinning until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked at Mr. Watercare. He was a member of the Red Men’s Lodge.
Survivors include one son, Gentry Earl Elks Jr. of Simpson; one brother, Richard Elks of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters, Geneva Boyd of Greenville and Frances Potter of Chocowinity; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elks Clark; three brothers, Robert Glen Elks, Gilbert R. “Dock” Elks and Owen C. Elks; and several half brothers and half sisters.
The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, and other times at the home.
