Mr. Joseph Thomas Liverman Sr., 90, of Columbia, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Maitland Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Thomas Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at Azalea Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Liverman was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Tyrrell County. His parents were the late George Lindsey and Addie Cahoon Liverman. He was a retired farmer. He worked as a forestry supervisor with Westvaco for 20 years. Mr. Liverman was a member of Faith Christian Fellowship, where he served as a deacon. He served on the Tyrrell County Board of Education. He was a member of Providence Lodge No. 678 and the Gideon’s International.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Sawyer Liverman of Columbia; a daughter, Denise Liverman of Raleigh; three sons, Edgbert L. Liverman Sr. of Chesapeake, Va., Joseph T. Liverman Jr. of Columbia and Charles L. Liverman of Plymouth; a brother, George W. Liverman, of Hampton, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.
Mr. Liverman was preceded in death by a daughter, Iris L. Phelps, and by three sisters, Dorothy L. Combs, Avis L. Berry and Elsie L. Ogle.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Maitland Funeral Home and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Christian Fellowship or to the Gideon’s International.
