Mrs. Myrtle Alligood Bennett, 89, of 407 E. Third St., Apartment 411, Washington, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Britthaven Nursing Center of Washington.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Moore officiating.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 13, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Mary Frances Alligood. On March 22, 1938, she married Guy Smith Bennett, who preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1967. She was a homemaker and a member of the Washington Ruritan Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Washington, where she was a member of the Ladies Circle and the Young At Heart Sunday school class.
Survivors include one son, Douglas M. Bennett of Chocowinity; four daughters, Frances “Joan” Lamb of Belhaven, Lori Evans of Texas, Dinah Dale Voliva of Washington and Dorothy Lawhon of Timmonsville, S.C.; two half brothers, David R. Waters of Belvidere, and James Thomas Waters of Mt. Airy; one half sister, Eleanor Linton of Chesapeake, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Waynick; two grandchildren, Jeff Shepard and Steele Bennett; her stepfather, Frank Waters Sr. and one half brother, Frank Waters Jr.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1-1:45 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, and other times at the home or at the home of her son, Douglas Bennett, 2030 W. Barr Road, Chocowinity.
