Mrs. Bernice Tingen Hopkins

Mrs. Bernice Tingen Hopkins, age 75, a resident of Autumnfield Retirement Home, Belhaven, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Hopkins had requested that her body be donated to science. A private service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Hopkins was born in Beaufort County on May 7, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Kindred Tingen and Rosa Beavers Tingen. Mrs. Hopkins was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of the Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hopkins was married to Dallas Hopkins, who preceded her in death, December 24, 1990.
Survivors include one son, Tommie Norris and his wife, Audrey of Chocowinity; three daughters, Dorian Pierce of Washington, Pam McVicker and her husband, Ricky of Chocowinity; Karen Whitehead and her husband, A.G. of Washington; two sisters, Betsy Slade of Washington, Faye Smith of Vanceboro; one brother, Larry Tingen of Washington; and four grandchildren, Kristen Whitehead, Matthew Norris, Christopher Norris and Trent Whitehead.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by a son, Jeryle Norris; a sister, Patsy Peay; a brother, Curtis Tingen; and a son-in-law, Howard Pierce.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Karen Whitehead, 785 Old Bath Highway, Washington.
