Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Moore Slade, 75, of 4813 N.C. Highway 99 South, Belhaven, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at The Oaks of Carolina, Raleigh.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Holly Grove Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Belhaven, with Bishop Little Joe Powell Jr. and Elder Johnson Hazel officiating. Burial will follow in the Slade family cemetery, Belhaven. Clyde Windley, Al Whitney Jr., Emery Jackson, Tony Windley, Johnny Lacy and Craig Gorham will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Slade was born in Beaufort County on May 19, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Lucy Ward Moore and Sonnie Moore Sr. She attended the Beaufort County Schools. She was married to Nathan Slade, who preceded her in death April 2, 1982. She was a member of Holly Grove Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Belhaven, where she served on the Mother board and in the senior choir.
Survivors include three daughters, Hazel Ward of Greenville, and Doris Lassiter and Glendora Graham, both of Raleigh; seven sons, Nathan Slade Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jimmy Slade and Gary Slade, both of Norfolk, Va., Melvin Slade and Charles Slade, both of Belhaven, Ernest Slade of Hawaii, and Patrick Slade of Chesapeake, Va.; one brother, Sonnie Moore Jr. of Belhaven; two sisters, Nancy Moore Satterthwaite of Washington and Catherine Moore of Bronx, N.Y.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria Bailey; one son, Jodie Slade; two brothers, Jefferson Moore and Thomas J. Moore and one sister, Mildred Ebron.
The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
