Mrs. Betty Jean James Burroughs, 72, of James Street, Bethel, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Delmus Ayers officiating. Burill will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
Mrs. Burroughs was born Dec. 1, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Johnnie Russell and Mae Lea Whitley James. She was a lifelong resident of Bethel and a was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Burroughs was a member of Woodmen of the World and the Bethel Senior Citizens. She was a retired bookkeeper with Harris Supermarket.
Survivors include one son, John Mitchell Gray of Mechanicsville, Va.; and one brother, Bobby Earl James of Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Burroughs was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Lee James.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Walker Funeral Home Ayers Chapel and other times at the home, 3909 James St., Bethel.
