Mr. Johnnie Ray Melton, 54, of 3073 Albemarle Church Road, Columbia, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James H. Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in the Melton Hill Dunbar Cemetery.
Mr. Melton was born in Tyrrell County on Dec. 12, 1953. He was the son of Ola McClees Melton and the late Edward C. Melton. He had been employed as an electrician.
Survivors include three sons, Tyrone Moore of Columbia, John Pickney of New York and James Bridds of South Carolina; one daughter, Kizzy Moore of New York; six brothers, Robert Melton of Virginia and Calvin L. Melton, Allen Melton, Bobby Melton, Willie Melton and Tony Melton, all of Columbia; two sisters, Mary M. Yasper of New York and Geneva M. Hill of Columbia and seven grandchildren.
