Mr. Lawrence Julia Owens of 202 Thomas St., Plymouth, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Mt. Hebron A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. Keith Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Lee Cemetery, Plymouth.
Mr. Owens was born in Plymouth on March 18, 1922. He was the son of the late Walter Owens and Annie Mae B. Owens-Armistead. He served in the Army from 1943-1946. He had been married to Alberta Barnes Owens, who survives. He had worked as a custodian for the Philadelphia City School System. He was a member of Mt. Hebron A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church, Plymouth.
Survivors include four sisters, Eloise Armistead of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Mary Moore of Plymouth, Elizabeth Armistead of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Deloris Wells of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and one brother, Frank Wynne of Engelwood, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Milton Armistead; four brothers, Henry, Milton, Sam and Morris and two sisters, Elnora and Evelyn.
The family will receive friends today from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
